    Hearing Aid Types

There are two general types of hearing aids and they are available in a variety of styles:

    In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids

    • IIC and CIC
    • In the canal (ITC)

Hearing aids that are placed behind the ear (BTE)

    • Receiver in the ear (RITE)
    • Behind-the-ear with earmold

    In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids

ITE-assistive devices — also referred to as “invisible” hearing aids — are inserted into the ear canal. They’re personally custom-fit, based on an impression of your ear taken by your hearing care professional. Deep placement hearing aids Some ITE hearing aids are placed very deep inside the ear canal, closer to the outer ear by others.

    BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aids

BTE aids, the more typical of the two, are placed behind or on top of the outer ear with tubing that bring the sound down into the ear canal through a custom-fit earmold or a dome style).

They have them in several colors to coordinate with hair/skin tone in both BTE and ITE styles. BTE in general have more bells and whistles and better tech though.

    Common hearing aid styles

    In-the-ear styles

    • Invisible in the canal (IIC)
    • Completely in the canal (CIC)

The IIC and CIC styles are the tiniest and least visible hearing aids. IIC means Invisible in the canal IIC style are nearly invisible.

You insert these far into your ear canal. They have to be pulled out with a thin pull out thread.

A close cousin of CIC, “completely in the canal” are similar, but do not fit quite as far in the ear.

Not a list of people with hearing loss. They are usually suitable for individuals with mild to moderate hearing impairment.

They generally aren’t equipped with any manual controls, such as a volume wheel or program buttons, since, with such a small size,

    it doesn’t exactly make sense.
